How to Get There

🚗 By Road

Well-paved roads connect Kigali to the major towns along Lake Kivu. It’s a scenic drive with options to stop at tea plantations, markets, and viewpoints. Local buses and private transfers are both available.

🛩️ By Air

Charter flights via Akagera Aviation are possible but rare. Most travelers arrive by road.

Traveler Tips

• Early mornings are best for lake activities (less wind)
• Buy fresh grilled fish (tilapia and sambaza) from lakeside vendors
• Look for locally made crafts and woven baskets in Kibuye
• Don’t swim too far out—Lake Kivu is deep and volcanic gas pockets exist (but pose no threat near shores)
