🛩️ By Air
Charter flights via Akagera Aviation are possible but rare. Most travelers arrive by road.
What to Pack
- Light clothing and swimwear
- Sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen
- Sandals or water shoes for rocky shores
- Camera or drone for aerial views
- Travel journal or book—you’ll want to linger
Traveler Tips
- Early mornings are best for lake activities (less wind)
- Buy fresh grilled fish (tilapia and sambaza) from lakeside vendors
- Look for locally made crafts and woven baskets in Kibuye
- Don’t swim too far out—Lake Kivu is deep and volcanic gas pockets exist (but pose no threat near shores)
Why You’ll Love Lake Kivu
Lake Kivu offers a softer side of Rwanda—where the pace slows, the coffee is strong, and the sunsets stretch across still waters. Whether you're on a romantic escape, solo recharge, or family trip, Lake Kivu gives you space to breathe and beauty to remember.
Come for the calm. Stay for the sunsets. Leave feeling restored.
